When launching, it automatically checks for potentially problematic programs on the computer; that is, examinees cannot have a webinar program running that records the screen as they take the test. It also prevents such programs from starting after the test has started.

WebLock locks down the computer as they take the test, so that the examinee cannot access other programs. If they had a "cheat sheet" in Microsoft Word or a reference book as a PDF, they would not be able to search.

The browser only presents the test; in a standard browser, the examinee could open another tab to surf the internet for answers or other information.

It provides only a minimalist interface (see below), removing most of the buttons and functionality that is useful in standard browsers but not for taking a secure test (bookmarking, history, etc.).

Standard FTW security procedures remain in place, including the requirement of a unique 12-character password to begin a test for a specific examinee, and limiting the knowledge of this code to only a proctor.

The WebLock program can easily be removed from the computer once the test is completed, or remain if the computer will be used for future tests.
