Adaptive Testing

Requirements for computerized adaptive testing (CAT)

Adaptive testing is incredibly powerful, but with it comes a substantial amount of complexity. FastTEST Web makes CAT feasible for virtually any testing organization that meets the basic requirements. What does a testing organization need before considering CAT? On overview is below, and more information is available here. We also recommend that you first read this landmark article by our industry-leading psychometricians.

  1. Items (questions) that can be scored objectively correct/incorrect in real time

  2. Resources to develop large banks of items, at least 3 times your intended test length

  3. At least 200-1000 examinees to serve as a pilot sample for each test (depends on IRT model)

  4. Expertise from a PhD psychometrician to perform complex item response theory (IRT) analysis and appropriate CAT research

  5. Item banking system capable of storing IRT parameters and designing CATs

  6. Test delivery system capable of fully adaptive testing based on IRT

Our expertise in the latter three components is unequaled in the industry; a testing organization must provide the first three components. Contact us to learn how our in-house experts can optimize the advantages of CAT to make your testing program more efficient.
